Another very important aspect of promoting your business is your Adwords and Keywords used in describing your site. A really neat program I've used is Aword Analyzer 2.0. It's a Brand New Software program that Instantly Uncovers Niche Markets That You Can Easily Dominate! Check it out and see what you think!
Articles for Publication
Another thing I was reading about is that by publishing informative articles about the subject matter of your business or website you can get traffic and links to your site. Imagine this, Site A writes an article about Cars. Site B, also a site dealing with cars, enjoys the article so much that they link to that article. Not only have you improved upon the content of your page(which can only help you), but you have recieved a "vote" for your site, thus promoting your business further. Very easy and doesn't take long to do, just be sure not to copy anyone elses information. Use information you find or read and then put it into your own unique format and wording, that way nobody is insulted or angry. Plagiarism is most definately not the way to go!
Link Exchange,New Information
Hi All, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Recently it has come to my attention via various seo forums and search engine newsgroups that linking has been given a lesser importance on the search engines results or SERPS. Everyone in this line of work has their own opinions, but in my own opinions well linked, well made websites with quality relevent links that compliment your own site has been and will always be very important in navigating the internet. Without links to various sites the web wouldn't be the web, and it wouldn't work. In order for the internet to work it requires links to link together the information from one source to another, building the infrastructure we call the internet, or World Wide Web. There are millions of websites out there and all of the best sites are linked together somewhere. I still believe that a well made site depends on some links and a lot of good content. But then there are as many opinions on website optimization as there are websites on the internet. I would love to hear what others think about this, please feel free to post!

How NOT to Promote your site
While we're addressing methods to get your online business site listed I think it is also infinitely important to let you know what NOT to do to promote your site. First of all don't make a list of spammy looking keywords at the bottom of your page(s). It seems like this would be something no one would want to do because it detracts from the look of the page but I see hundreds of sites on an ongoing basis that are doing just that. Instead of overloading your pages with hundreds of keywords and no content why not use top quality content that will get you quality visitors? Anything worth doing is worth doing right the first time, right?
Secondly Content. It has been said that Content is King and it is true that the better the content the more valuable the page to your readers. After all who would want to return to a site with poor content or hard to navigate pages? Content is just one of the many things that search engines and directories look at when they assign position and rank to webpages. So don't provide content that your readers can find anywhere. Providing unique content will assure that people return to your site and tell their friends how great your site is!
Thirdly FFA Sites. It has been my experience to avoid these like the plague! If you link to a "Link Farm" and they are penalized by the search engines your site could be penalized as well. Don't do it, nothing is worth losing your hard earned position on the search engines.
Fourth Link Exchange. Don't try to skimp on content and maximize on the links. A well rounded site always fares better overall than a site that is made only to trick the search engines into awarding more Pr than they should. After all the point of building a site is to get traffic, right?

Welcome to Promoting Your Business Online
Hello and Welcome to my Blog! I have been designing websites since 1996 and have been using computers on the BBS since 1986! There are many people out there that can design a great website but what happens then? Many people are not aware that there is more work involved in getting traffic to their sites than just building a site. Promoting your Business online or even your personal site takes continuous upgrading and work. It also takes the know how to succeed in getting your site listed in the major search engines so that your site can be found. Even the most well designed site isn't worth anything if nobody can find it. Why design a site that no one will ever see? There are several steps to creating a site and getting it indexed by the engines. The more exposure the better! Many people will tell you that it's all about Pr but in reality it isn't. The fact is it is about Quality and Content. Without either a website may get a good Pr but eventually it is destined to lose some or all of it. I see pages and pages of links on some websites that take you nowhere and yet the people who build the website can't figure out why no one wants to link with their site or why their site Pr just won't rise. A Link Exchange program is also another way to get more traffic and to rise in the index however a combination of many different Honest methods work the best. That means having correct meta tags on your site, good quality content, submitting your site to the search engines, and a Link Exchange that is at least somewhat relevent to your site all helps you to maximize the chance that your site will be found when someone searches for a term related to your site. Several sites that I have found to be extremely valuable is http://www.wordtracker.com and http://www.google.com . Wordtracker is an excellent resource for finding keyword phrases that are relevent to your site and that are commonly searched for and Google has many great resources for the small business owner. The key is to gather several of the most relevent terms and place them in your tags. Also using a few of these words in the description of your website when exchanging links will only help you as well. Just make sure the words you use are good quality words and try to pick the closest terms to apply to your site as possible. Starting a Business Online is one of the hardest things to do if you don't know how to properly promote your website. If you have wanted to start a online business but don't really know how to get started there are many good resources on the internet for the taking.
